WTA: Lisicki reaches first semi-final in Taipei since 2015

For the first time in two and a half years, former Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki has reached the semi-finals of a WTA tournament in Taipei with an energetic performance.

In her third match after a break of almost three months, the 28-year-old defeated Monica Niculescu from Romania after 2:45 hours 4:6,6:4,6:4,6:4. The next opponent of the Berliner is Kateryna Koslowa (Ukraine).

Lisicki, currently only number 246 in the world rankings, was last in the semi-finals at the WTA tournament in Birmingham in June 2015. Three consecutive victories in a row, the Berliner had her last victory at the US Open more than two years ago, where she made it to the last sixteen.

Lisicki injured his knee in the semi-final of the Challenger tournament in Limoges at the beginning of November and had to undergo surgery later. Only the week before, she had made her comeback in Luxembourg after a lengthy leg injury.
