ATP: Defeat against Seppi – Zverev out of the way

Alexander Zverev was eliminated in the last sixteen at the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in Rotterdam: Andreas Seppi, who was born in Hamburg, was defeated in two sets by Andreas Seppi.

Zverev started hard before the eyes of Boris Becker, who had taken a seat in the 20-year-old’s box, Seppi immediately took off his serve. After that, however, the German Davis Cup player briefly lost his concentration and had to watch Seppi go from 1:3 to 5:3. But even the experienced competitor was unable to manage the lead for the time being. Zverev made the re-break to 4:5 – but then made three forehand mistakes and served his opponent the first set on a silver platter.

In the second round, Seppi was the first to gain the break advantage to 4:2 – and at a score of 5:3, Seppi had to make up for a 0:30 deficit. After only 78 minutes, however, the Italian changed his first match point – Zverev sent a ball into the net.

In the second match, Zverev lost against South Tyrol for the first time. In 2017, Seppi had only won three games on Monte Carlo’s ashes. In the round of the last eight Andreas Seppi is now waiting for the winner of the match between Daniil Medvedev from Russia and the Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

The last German at the Hartplatzturnier, which is endowed with just under two million euros, will be Philipp Kohlschreiber from Augsburg, who will face the top-seeded old Swiss champion Roger Federer on Thursday. Federer is only two victories away before his historic return to the tennis throne. The 20-time Grand Slam winner easily won his opening match against Belgian Ruben Bemelmans 6-1,6-2. With a semi-final draw in the Netherlands, Federer would be the oldest world number one in history on Monday at 36 years, six months and eleven days.
