During a visit to the tennis center in Kamen, Westphalia, Boris Becker rejected the speculation about an engagement in the team of the world’s fifth-ranked Alexander Zverev.
“I like him very much, he is very talented, but I feel very comfortable in my position at the German Tennis Association,”said Becker. For the three-time Wimbledon winner, who has been working for the DTB on a voluntary basis as Head of Men’s Tennis since August 2017, a double function is out of the question:”This discussion does not arise for me,” said Becker,”I have my tasks for television and the DTB. Already on Friday, Becker had explained that he had to wait until the Masters in Miami (from 19. March) again.
It had previously become known that Zverev broke up with his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero after only seven months. The Spanish sports daily Marca reports that Becker will be looking after the German hopeful in the coming months:”The speculations do not come from somewhere, they will see me at the next tournaments near him, but I have my hat on at the DTB,”said Becker.
Already on Friday, Zverev’s manager Patricio Apey told the Bild-Zeitung:”There are no plans to get someone new again immediately. Zverev will continue to be trained by his father Alexander senior, and next week the 20-year-old will serve at the ATP tournament in Acapulco, Mexico.
