Cycling: Abu Dhabi: Arndt seventh in Dennis victory

Professional cyclist Nikias Arndt missed the next German stage victory in the Abu Dhabi Tour.

In the 12.6 km long individual time trial on Al Maryah Island, the 26-year-old Buchholzer, 22 seconds behind the Australian one-day winner Rohan Dennis (BMC Racing), was the seventh best German. Arndt’s team mate and time trial world champion Tom Dumoulin (Netherlands) was killed by a defect.

The sprint specialists Phil Bauhaus (73. Marcel Kittel (79th place/Sunweb), Marcel Kittel (79th/Katusha-Alpecin) and Pascal Ackermann (94th/Bora-hansgrohe), who had ensured a German triple success on Friday, played no role in the fight against the clock and dropped back in the overall standings.

Dennis leads the overall standings ahead of Spaniard Jonathan Castroviejo (Sky/+14 seconds behind) before the final fifth leg on Sunday. Best German is Jasha Sütterlin (Movistar) 38 seconds behind Dennis.
