WTA: Svitolina from Kerber-Bezwingerin wins tournament in Dubai

Top seeded Ukrainian Elina Svitolina has won the top class WTA tournament in Dubai and once again proved her strong form.

In the final of the $2.623 million hard court tournament in the desert emirate, the world number four defeated the unseeded Russian Daria Kasatkina with 6:4,6:0 and celebrated the eleventh victory of her career – and the second in the still young season. Svitolina had already triumphed in Brisbane earlier this year.

In the semi-finals in Dubai, 23-year-old Svitolina won 6-3,6-3,6-3 against Germany’s top player Angelique Kerber (Kiel/No. 6) on Friday. Julia Görges (Bad Oldesloe) had to cancel her start in Dubai because of a hip injury.
