WTA: After 195 days: US Open winner Stephens stops the bankruptcy series

Sloane Stephens won a match on the WTA Tour for the first time 195 days after her surprising US Open victory last year.

At the tournament in Acapulco/Mexico, the US-American finished the long dry spell with a 6-4,6-0 win in her first-round match against French Pauline Parmentier.

Previously, Stephens had lost eight games in a row and only won three sets. For example, the 24-year-old had failed in the first round of the first Grand Slam tournament of the year in Melbourne and had also suffered two defeats at the Fed Cup finals in Belarus in 2017.
