Alpine Skiing: Paralympics: Giant slalom race brought forward due to weather forecast

For Anna Schaffelhuber and the alpine ski racers of the German Disabled Sports Association (DBS) the Paralympics in Pyeongchang are finished earlier than expected. Due to bad weather forecasts with rain, the giant slalom was brought forward from Sunday to Wednesday. The men’s giant slalom was postponed from Saturday to Wednesday, but the slalom will now take place on Saturday instead of Wednesday as planned.

Schaffelhuber had won downhill and super-G gold at the start of the games, which ended on Sunday. For them, the game is on the move from Tuesday to Thursday: within three days after the change of plan by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) super combination, giant slalom and the slalom on Thursday.

Rain and warm temperatures are predicted for Thursday and Friday. The track at the Jeongseon Alpine Centre would therefore probably not have been in a mobile condition until Sunday. In contrast to the Olympic Games, which were affected by freezing cold weather, springlike conditions currently prevail in Pyeongchang. The Nordic countries also complained about deep and soft snow.
