WTA: Halep after show of strength more

World number one Simona Halep has had difficulty winning her opening match at the Miami Open.

Halep won after 2 hours and 5 minutes playing time with 3:6, 6:3, 7:5. The Australian Open finalist already had her back to the wall in set three, Dodin was already leading 3:1 and 4:2.

Dodin determined the game from the beginning and played a strong first round, after the end of which Halep was treated in the neck area. After their 3-6, 0-6 defeat of Naomi Osaka in Indian Wells, however, Halep had a lot to make up for – and showed fighting spirit. In the end, Dodin failed her serve: 16 double faults in total, a first serve rate of 43 percent and 52 unchallenged mistakes ultimately prevented a sensation in round two. Halep now meets Agnieszka Radwanska.
