Service: “Crocodile Road to Roland Garros”: Win an exclusive VIP package to Paris

tennisnet.com and Lacoste present the “Crocodile Road to Roland Garros” – learn more about the life of company founder and tennis legend René Lacoste in our new series and win an exclusive VIP package for the French Open as well as great weekly prizes from the sports and lifestyle brand.

René Lacoste was born in Paris in 1904 and spent many years of his life there. Of course, his fashion company, which bears his name, is also based there and has close ties with the French capital.

Especially the big Paris tournament is very important for Lacoste and its founder. The French Open, also known as Roland Garros, is one of the four Grand Slam tournaments and is the only one held on sand. Located in the Stade Roland Garros in the 16th arrondissement, the venue can look back on a glorious and successful history. Fashion icon Lacoste and his company were the constant companions of the event.

The stadium of the French Open, the Court Philippe Chatrier, was built in honour of the four musketeers in 1927. Lacoste and his team mates Jean Borotra, Jacques Brugnon and Henri Cochet won the Davis Cup for France for the first time – the birth of the four musketeers. In order to defend the title in France the following year, a worthy setting had to be created for the home matches in the national competition.

The title was successfully defended and a monument to the glorious years was built with team leader Lacoste on Place de Mousquetaires between Court Philippe Chatrier and Court One on Roland Garros. And that’s not all: The four main grandstands of the biggest court on the course were also named after the Davis Cup winners. Borotra, Brugnon, Cochet and of course Lacoste now adorn the grandstand signs of Court Philippe Chatrier.

In 2018 Lacoste not only celebrates its 85th anniversary, but also its long-standing partnership with Roland Garros. For 47 years now, Lacoste and Roland Garros have been working closely together and can look back on a successful cooperation. This needs to be celebrated and Lacoste is launching a matching co-branded collection. Just in time for the start of the French Open, which will also take place this year from May 21 to June 10, 2018. The “New Crocodile” and French Open winner 2016 Novak Djokovic. Since last year, the little green crocodile has been adorning Djokovic’s breast and the Serb is the face of the fashion line.

The new design embodies the philosophy of the company founder. René Lacoste attached great importance to sporty elegance on and off the pitch and stood for fighting spirit and fair play.
