Jack Sock will compete for “Team World”, Kyle Edmund for “Team Europe”.
The cat is out of the bag – or the Jack out of the box: The US-American Jack Sock is the sixth man for “Team World”, who will also try to win the Laver Cup in its second edition with Juan Martin del Potro, Kevin Anderson, John Isner, Diego Schwartzman and Nick Kyrgios from 21 to 23 September in Chicago. Last year, the team from Europe won.
This will be completed in 2018 by Kyle Edmund – Roger Federer, Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov, Novak Djokovic and David Goffin have been certain so far.
John McEnroe (with Brother Patrick) and Björn Borg (and Thomas Enqvist) are again team leaders for “Team Europe”.
The final teams were announced in New York on Tuesday morning. Juan Martin del Potro said: “It won’t be easy for and, but at least we have the biggest team.”
Jack Sock, however, will have to do well at the US Open. The 25-year-old qualified at the last minute for the ATP Tour Finals in London last year by winning the Masters Tournament in Paris, but is experiencing an epidemic season this year. He has only won 5 matches so far, lost 15. He is currently ranked 18th in the world rankings, but only 170th in the annual ranking, and was eliminated in round one in each of the past four Grand Slam tournaments.
