Davis Cup: Davis Cup draw: Germany vs. Hungary, Austria vs. Chile

The first round matches for the Davis Cup 2019 are out!

The German Davis Cup team will meet Hungary on the weekend of 1 and 2 February 2019, Austria will compete with Chile. That was the result of the draw on Wednesday afternoon in London. Both Germany and Austria have a home game and therefore the right to choose the surface.

The last meeting between the DTB team and Hungary took place in 1978, in a direct comparison Germany leads with 3:2.

The duel between Austria and Chile took place for the last time in Rancagua in 2009, with Chile leading 3-0 in the H2H comparison.

The other ten first-round duels can be found here. The opponents of Kazakhstan and Canada will be played in October.

The twelve winning teams will then play with this year’s semi-finalists (Croatia, France, Spain, USA) and two wildcard teams (Great Britain, Argentina) at a year-end tournament in Madrid for the “new” Davis Cup.

The date (18th to 24th November) seems to be still open contrary to first statements: The original planning to actually hold this as a final event after the ATP Tour Finals in November was not taken positively by most professionals.
