WTA: Caroline Garcia stops Karolina Pliskova in the final of Tianjin

Caroline Garcia has won the WTA tournament in Tianjin. In the final, the Frenchwoman defeated Karolina Pliskova in two sets.

Garcia prevailed after 1:43 hours with 7:6 (7) and 6:3 and showed her strong late form like last year. In 2017 Garcia had secured herself a place at the WTA Finals in Singapore with her wins in Wuhan and Beijing. The triumph in Tianjin was the sixth in the career 24-year-old resident of Lyon.

The same is also the goal of Pliskova, who takes 180 points from Tianjin into the Porsche Race to Singapore. Thus the former world number one secured himself a little bit to the back. Pliskova are in eighth position, their immediate rivals Kiki Bertens (out in Linz in round two) and Aryna Sabalenka (lost in Tianjin in the quarter-finals) did not perform as desired this week.
