ATP: Stan Wawrinka must end season due to back injury

Stan Wawrinka has to end his season early. The Swiss is suffering from a back injury.

The three-time Grand Slam champion injured his back so badly during a training session at the Basel Swiss Indoors that he will not be playing any more games this year. Wawrinka will not only have to withdraw for his first round match against Adrian Mannarino, he will also not start at the last 1000cc tournament in Paris.

After a protracted knee injury, the Swiss had only returned to the Tour in Rome and was only slowly approaching his top level again. The recent injury is another bitter setback in the 33-year-old’s career.

“It was a challenging year for me both physically and mentally. But I’m motivated for the new season,” Stan the Man gives his fans hope.
