Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer continue to break all records! For the seventh time, the exceptional talents finished the season together in the top three positions of the ATP world rankings.
Djokovic, Nadal and Federer already accomplished this feat from 2007 to 2011 and 2014. However, there was still something new this season: for the first time in the course of the year, each player held the position of industry leader. The Serbian Novak Djokovic finished the year as number one.
The 31-year-old is thus the oldest number one at the end of the year, replacing Rafael Nadal, who set the record only last year. Nevertheless, the Spaniard has every reason to be happy: For the 14th time in a row, he finished the year in the top ten. Thus he lies ex aequo with Federer behind Jimmy Connors in second place.
Federer can also look forward to further outstanding figures. The Swiss finished the year for the 14th time in the top three and thus added another milestone to his career.
What is particularly remarkable about the statistics of the ATP is that since 2004, no player except Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray have had the honour of being at the top of the world rankings.
In the near future, this is most likely to be the case for the German Alexander Zverev. For the second time in a row, the 21-year-old finished the year in the top four of the ATP rankings. With his success at the ATP finals in London, Sascha further raised expectations for the coming season.
But Dominic Thiem can also look back on a pleasant year: Lichtenwörther finished his year as eighth and thus en suite among the top ten for the third time. Of all the Austrian tennis pros, only Thomas Muster had succeeded in doing this before.
