Quali: Struff startete gegen Iwaschka

Jan-Lennard Struff will play the opening match against Belarus in the Davis Cup qualifying round. The German team sees itself as the favourite.

Jan-Lennard Struff will have the first German serve in the Davis Cup qualification against Belarus in Düsseldorf on Friday (4 p.m.).

In the opening singles the number one of the DTB-team will meet Ilja Iwaschka, afterwards Philipp Kohlschreiber (Augsburg) will play Egor Gerassimow.

On Saturday (12.00 p.m.) the stage in the Düsseldorf Castello will belong first to Kevin Krawietz (Coburg) and Andreas Mies.

The reigning French Open winners in the doubles will meet Gerasimov and Alexander Sgirowsky. The singles between Struff and Gerasimov as well as Kohlschreiber and Iwaschka will follow.

“We have to say quite clearly: Yes, we’re the favourites, but we’re certainly not going to be arrogant,” said Kohlschreiber, for whom this year might be the farewell tour in the Davis Cup: “I’m at an age now where tennis is no longer the top priority,” said the 36-year-old, who nevertheless enjoys working in the team: “It’s an honour to still be part of it.
