Peiffer wins a place on the podium

Arnd Peiffer delivers a real energy performance at the last World Cup of the season and pushes himself into the top three. The biathlete is surprised himself.

Arnd Peiffer ran to the podium at the end of the Biathlon World Cup in Nove Mesto with a true energy performance.

After a penalty lap and 15 km, the sprint Olympic champion finished third, just before the end he distanced his rivals.

“It was extremely difficult. I was surprised that it worked out so well,” Peiffer said on ZDF. Franziska Preuß had previously also finished third in the women’s mass start.

Despite three penalty rounds the Norwegian Johannes Thingnes Bö celebrated his ninth victory of the season.

Bold and Co. without a real chance
At the finish line, the World Champion was 15.1 seconds ahead of the flawless Frenchman Emilien Jacquelin, Peiffer’s gap was 25.0 seconds.

The other Germans had no chance for a front position because of their shooting weaknesses. Johannes Kühn (four penalty rounds) as twelfth, Benedikt Doll (5) as 17th and Philipp Horn (7) as 27th disappointed.

In contrast to the World Cup in the heart of the Czech Republic, the last two World Cups of the season will be held in front of spectators despite the spread of the corona virus.

Next week competitions will be held in Kontiolahti, followed by the season finale in Oslo.
