Angelique Kerber will be confronted with Alizé Cornet from France in the second round of the WTA Premier Mandatory tournament in Beijing.

After their 6-2,7-5 opener win against Japanese newcomer Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber will face a tough challenge in round two.In the first round, Alizé Cornet from France beat local heroine Wang Yaman 6:3 and 7:5, as expected.Kerber and Cornet meet for the fourth time – all three previous games were won by the German.

The last meeting of the two players so far took place at the Masters in Rome 2015 – Kerber won in two sets.

With the semi-final appearance in Tokyo and despite her first-round defeat against tournament winner Caroline Garcia in Wuhan, Kerber is looking better and has already been able to repay Osaka for losing the US opener a few weeks ago.
