Lacoste and tennisnet raffle 1×2 tickets for the ATP final in London in November!Answer today’s third Monday question correctly, and you’re already in the raffle: Why does Lacoste have the unmistakable crocodile as a logo?

Lacoste is not only associated with tennis, the brand is also known far beyond the bounds of sport thanks to its unmistakable crocodile logo.A symbol that stands not only for quality, but also for grace and winner. But why does the crocodile adorn all Lacoste articles?

The answer lies in 1923.France prevailed in the European zone of the International Lawn Tennis Challenge, today’s Davis Cup, and played a playoff against Australia in Boston. The later winner was to compete against the defending champion, the USA, in the final.

Before the first game, which Rene Lacoste was to play against James Anderson, the Frenchman saw a suitcase made of crocodile leather and bet with captain Alan Muhr for the piece.Should Lacoste defeat Anderson in the opening match, Muhr would give his player the suitcase.

In 1926, Lacoste asked his friend Robert George to design a crocodile for his new collection. A short time later, Lacoste wore the logo for the first time on one of his blazers.

Lacoste lost the game against Anderson in three sets with 5:7,3:6,4:6 and thus also the bet with Muhr.Australia later won 4-1 against France.Whether Lacoste bought the suitcase himself is not known.
