WTA: Yelena Ostapenko qualified for Singapore

The French Open winner is now also qualified for the season finale.

As the WTA announced today, the Latvian has qualified as the seventh player for the WTA Finals.Garbine Muguruza, Simona Halep, Karolina Pliskova, Elina Svitolina, Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki have already been on board.This means that only one place is still available – at the moment Johanna Contacts is ranked eighth in the Porsche Race to Singapore, the annual ranking 2017.Kristina Mladenovic, Caroline Garcia and Svetlana Kuznetsova follow with a few points.

“I am overjoyed to have qualified for my first WTA finals,”Ostapenko said.The 20-year-old had won her first ever championship on the professional tour with the French Open, but only a few weeks ago she won her first regular WTA title in Seoul.Ostapenko was also in the final of Charleston this year, in the semi-finals at Wuhan and in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon.Ostapenko moved into the top ten for the first time on 11.September.

The WTA Finals will take place from 22.until 29 October in Singapore.
