ATP: Djokovic-Guru:”He’s changed.”

Mental coach Pepe Imaz talks about working with Novak Djokovic and sees himself and his methodology as part of his success.

Djokovic has won 68 titles in his career, including twelve Grand Slam victories. In 2011, the Serbian rider for the first time made it to the first place in the world rankings and should hold it for a long time.

For years, the now 30-year-old dominated the tennis scene and was regarded as the ultimate in physical and mental strength.

The dominance of the “djoker” is said to have been due to the cooperation with the mental coach and esoteric guru Pepe Imaz. The Spaniard has been a member of the Djokovic team since 2012 and has been travelling to the ATP Tour tournaments since last season.

In an interview with the Spanish AS, Imaz spoke about his protégé and his success:”He has changed as a human being and as a professional. He treats other people with more respect and has gained greater acceptance,”Imaz explained.

The Guru attributes most of the success of the current number six in the world to the “joint journey”.Novak feels good and since we started this adventure, he has managed to win new tournaments time and again – for example the French Open last year,”the 43-year-old Spaniard continued.

For the slump in 2017, Imaz has also made a statement, without forgetting to reiterate the value of his work:”He is calmer, but his physical condition has deteriorated.Nevertheless, he has enjoyed many years of success due to the collaboration.”

Djokovic’s retirement from the Wimbledon quarter-finals against Tomas Berdych last summer was followed by the end of the season.A persistent elbow injury forces him to make this decision, the Serbian announced in a live Facebook video.Imaz explained Djokovic’s current state of health:”He focuses on rehabilitation therapy and physical aspects. He’s undergoing treatment that can refresh him.The goal is to get him back in Australia by January 2018.”

When asked if Djokovic would train with the racquet again, there was a clear answer from the esoteric gurus:”No, he’s not training with the racquet yet.
