The trip to Asia seems to be still difficult for Dominic Thiem. The Lichtenwörther was assigned a walk-through as number five of the draw, but after that a player of the hour could wait for him with the Canadian Denis Shapovalov: The youngster stands in the main field via wildcard and has to face Viktor Troicki in round one.If Thiem wins, John Isner and Alexander Zverev could lurk in the further course, then Roger Federer in a possible semi-final.
Zverev starts in round two against Aljaz Bedene or Paolo Lorenzi, after which his opponent should be called Juan Martin del Potro. And Federer will face Diego Schwartzman or a qualifier, after that Jack Sock would be a likely candidate for the last sixteen.
Rafael Nadal is on the other side of the peloton, at the very top of the field, and can play second round against the young American Jared Donaldson or the Argentinean Pablo Cuevas, then it could be the same as in Tokyo against the Frenchman Lucas Pouille. Also in Nadal’s quarter is Grigor Dimitrov.
