WTA: Caroline Garcia headed for Singapore
One place is still vacant for the season finale of the women’s singles in Singapore. At the moment, Beijing winner Caroline Garcia has the best prospects for this.
Caroline Garcia canceled her start at the WTA tournament in Tianjin for understandable reasons: the French woman has made a historic success in the past two weeks, and no other player had ever managed to score the double with the triumphs in Wuhan and Beijing before. The reward for this: Garcia improved to eighth place in the Porsche Race to Singapore, overtaking Johanna Contacts – and at the moment she would be the last lady to compete for the last big individual title of the year at the season finale.
In the regular WTA World Ranking Caroline Garcia has also reached new heights, she is now in ninth place. The ranking is led by Simona Halep, she is the fifth lady after Angelique Kerber, Serena Williams, Karolina Pliskova and Garbine Muguruza, who is laughing from the top during this season.
Best German player is Angelique Kerber in eleventh place, Julia Görges follows on position 26.
Maria Sharapova is on the advance, the third round in Beijing brought the Russian to a current place of 85, of course still far below the Russian’s expectations, but a guarantee to have a secure starting place at the Australian Open.Sharapova is competing in Tianjin, she would have been the first-round opponent of Garcia – and after her retreat she is confronted with Irina-Camelia Begu.
