WTA: Witthöft strikes Haas at the start in Linz

Carina Witthöft reached the last sixteen at the WTA-Tournament in Linz despite some effort.The 22-year-old defeated the Austrian local hero Barbara Haas in a game with eleven breaks after 2:14 hours 6:3,4:6,6:4 on Wednesday in her opening match at the $250,000 hard court tournament.

Witthöft will now face top seeded Slovak Magdalena Rybarikova in the round of sixteen.

Tatjana Maria is already in the round of the last 16.The 30-year-old from Bad Saulgau will fight Viktoria Kuzmova on Wednesday evening for a place in the quarter-finals.The Slovakian had defeated Anna-Lena Friedsam (Neuwied) in her opening round wildcard starter Anna-Lena Friedsam (Neuwied) in her first match after an injury break of over a year.
