WTA: Luxembourg: Witthöft focussed,”Petko” injured
At the WTA tournament in Luxembourg, some German women were in action.Among other things, Carina Witthöft delivered a focused game.
Carina Witthöft started her career at the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open. The 22-year-old from Hamburg, however, had only few problems against the Russian Evgeniya Rudina. In only 68 minutes Witthöft dealt her opponent with 6:2 and 6:3.
The Germans showed two strong nerves especially in passage by falling back quickly with 0:3.Witthöft found his way back into the lead, however, and won six games at a time and rushed into the quarter-finals.
Andrea Petkovic, on the other hand, experienced a raven-black day.The Belgian player Kiki Bertens from Belgium was beaten by the Germans in less than 15 minutes with a score of 0:4.Despite a “Petko” who was getting better and better in the match, her opponent snatched the first set 6:2.In the second set Petkovic was out of action and the player from Darmstadt had to give up injured at a score of 1:2.
This means that even the purely German quarter-finals against Witthöft, which would have waited for Petkovic in the next round, will not turn out to be anything like that.
