WTA: Superstar Maria Sharapowa distributes relief supplies in Puerto Rico

Maria Sharapowa will distribute relief supplies on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico next week.

The former number one from Russia will travel to the crisis zone with her colleague Monica Puig next Monday to give portable stoves, medicine and other utensils to the population.

The world rankings 69. Puig had won the first Olympic gold medal for her home country Puerto Rico at the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro – in the final against Angelique Kerber (Kiel).

Sharapowa (30) has also pledged to donate the proceeds received by the end of the year for products from her confectionery chain “Sugarpova” to a charity founded by Puig (24).

The cyclone swept over the island in September, leaving a field of devastation. At least 48 people died. The infrastructure in the US outlying area is still destroyed, the economy is at a standstill. The estimated loss is estimated at around 81 billion euros.
