ATP: Tsonga and del Potro squinting at London
While the women’s final round has already begun, some men are still looking for their place in the big final in the London O2 arena.
Pablo Carreno Busta doesn’t feel completely sure about his place at the ATP finals in London for a few weeks now – now two more candidates have put themselves in a good position to become even more dangerous for the Spaniard: On the one hand, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who won his fourth title of the season in Antwerp with the final victory against Diego Schwartzman (after Rotterdam, Lyon And Juan Martin del Potro, who won the final in Stockholm against Grigor Dimitrov.
The good news for Carreno Busta: There are still around 500 points, Tsonga and del Potro are missing. And there are only two chances left to catch up: this week either in Vienna (Tsonga) or Basel (del Potro), then at the last ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris-Bércy. Also in the race – and at the moment better ranked than the Frenchman and the Argentinean: Sam Querrey and Kevin Anderson, both of whom will serve in the Wiener Stadthalle.
The “regular” ATP world ranking didn’t lead to any shifts on the front positions, Rafael Nadal leads ahead of Roger Federer. Alexander Zverev, who starts his Vienna campaign today against Viktor Troicki, is fifth, immediately followed by Dominic Thiem.
A little further behind Damir Dzumhur with his success in Moscow, Damir Dzumhur has improved by seven places to 31st place, the young Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas is among the top 100 for the first time. Yannick Hanfmann, who won the ATP-Challenger in Ismaning, has advanced by 18 ranks to 114th place.
Here is the current ATP world ranking list
