The history of the Lacoste brand goes back to the early 20th century. Century. The starting signal was to be given in 1904, the year of Rene Lacostes’ birth. Jean-Jules Lacoste’s son knew early on that he wanted to play tennis – and the career curve knew only one direction from the very beginning: steep up!

In 1925 he won his first Grand Slam tournament in Paris, and over the years nine more titles were added in Paris, Wimbledon and New York. Later on, Rene Lacoste devoted himself to his second passion, developing the ball machine and designing his own collections, which at that time already featured the crocodile as a trademark.

46 years after his first success in Paris, Lacoste became the official sponsor of Roland Garros, and in 1976 Rene Lacoste was admitted to the international Tennis Hall of Fame. The brand continues to grow and does not suffer a major slump after Rene Lacoste’s death in 1996.

Lacoste has been an official ATP partner since 2002, the foundation Fondation Lacoste was founded in 2006, and in 2011 two Lacoste polo shirts will be launched every second (!). The crocodile has always stood for strong athletes and personalities and continues this tradition in the present day. In 2017, no one less than Novak Djokovic will be introduced as a new crocodile by Lacoste.

The Djoker, together with Lacoste, developed its own collection and was the face of a comprehensive advertising campaign. Its message: Rene Lacoste and Novak Djokovic, two legends that share the same values: fair play, fighting spirit and elegance.
