WTA finals: Latvian strikes Pliskova clearly

Latvian Jelena Osatepnko celebrated her first victory in the WTA finals with a strong performance in her third match in Singapore against Karolina Pliskova.

After only 68 minutes it was time: Ostapenko was the first time that she won the tournament of the best eight. After two defeats in the previous two matches, the young Latvian player showed a strong form and beat Pliskova 6-3 and 6-1.

The first round started for both players with a moderate start and had to take a break until 2:2. The longer the game lasted, the better Ostapenko found her match and took the initiative. The reigning French Open winner defused her Czech opponent’s hard serve well and won the first set 6-3 with two more breaks.

At the beginning of the second set, the 20-year-old increased again and put Pliskova under strong pressure. The ex-number-one could not oppose the power game of the Latvian player and quickly saw herself trailing behind. After only 25 minutes, the second half of the match went 6-1 to the younger of the two players. Pliskova is already one of the top four in the tournament with two victories.

In the second match of the day, the Spaniard Garbine Muguruza will face old champion Venus Williams (from 1:30 pm in the Liveticker and LIVE on DAZN). Both players have a win in their respective accounts and still have a chance to reach the semi-finals.
