WTA finals: Svitolina retires from WTA finals Simona Halep

Elina Svitolina, who has already retired, knocked Simona Halep out of the tournament and put Caroline Garcia in the semi-finals.

I expected a better week, better tennis from my side. But it’s all going wrong,”complained Elina Svitolina on Wednesday after her defeat against Caroline Garcia in three sets.

And Simona Halep?”It was one of my bad days. I’ve made too many mistakes and she’s done it all,”she said after her gossip against Wozniacki.

Svitolina, who did not have a chance of making it through Garcia’s win over Wozniacki, was able to cope with her situation better. 6-3,6-4 over the world’s No. 1, who stayed longer in the exchanges than two days ago, but still made too many easy mistakes.

“It wasn’t the best week. But this was my last match of the year, so I was able to play a bit freer,”said Svitolina,”I was very happy to be here and can now leave with a good feeling”.

With her victory, Svitolina ensured that Caroline Garcia was the group winner, ahead of Caroline Wozniacki. Simona Halep is eliminated.

The semi-finals on Saturday are therefore: Caroline Garcia – Venus Williams, Caroline Wozniacki – Karolina Pliskova.
