WTA: Görges wins their opening match in Zhuhai
Julia Görges (Bad Oldesloe) has won her opening match against Magdalena Rybarikova at the WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai. After 1:39 hours, the German number one converted her first match point against Slovakia to 6:1,7:6 (7:5)
The former world number one Angelique Kerber (Kiel) will then play the Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Görges traveled to China with a lot of self-confidence: The German Fed Cup player recently celebrated her third WTA title in Moscow, the first since 2011.
The so called B-WM in Zhuhai will be held in four groups of three. The tournament, which is endowed with $2.28 million, will be contested by twelve participants: eleven players, who were ranked ninth to nineteenth in the race classification, and wildcard starter Shuai Peng (China). The group winners reach the semi-finals. Görges plays in the Azalea group, Kerber in the Bougainvillea group. Patron of the tournament is Steffi Graf.
