ATP: Knee problems: Top seeded Nadal pulls back in Paris
Top seed Rafael Nadal had to retire from the ATP Masters in Paris on Friday, barely two hours before his scheduled quarter-final due to a knee injury.
“It’s a sad situation. I tried everything and got myself treated late last night. But it’s impossible to go to court,”said French Open winner Nadal at a short-notice press conference.
On Friday afternoon, the 31-year-old Spaniard should have played qualifier Filip Krajinovic (Serbia) for the semi-finals of Paris-Bercy.
Already in the past Nadal had forced problems with his knees to pause. Also with a view to the upcoming ATP final in London (12th place) and the ATP World Cup. till 19. November) the left-hander was not too optimistic.
“I’ll do everything I can to be ready. But I don’t think of London, I have to think of the big picture,”said the 16-time Grand Slam champion Nadal, who will definitely finish the 2017 tennis year as number one in the world rankings.
