ATP: Leading actor in London and Halle: Zverev, Federer and Thiem

Roger Federer, Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem compete for the last big title of the 2017 season – Tournament director Ralf Weber:”Our spectators can expect a uniquely strong field”.

The last major tournament titles in the 2017 season are currently being awarded, and the tennis stars of the GERRY WEBER OPEN are right in the middle of these prestigious championships. When the final matches of the ATP World Tour will start next Sunday in London, the world metropolis, three aces will be taking part in the final matches of the ATP 500 grass event at the GERRY WEBER STADION in Halle, Westphalia at the 26th ATP 500 grass event. And this has to do with the fact that two more young stars will be appearing in the East Westphalian city of Lindenstadt, who are predicted to play a formative role in the tennis future of men’s tennis: 20-year-old Andrey Rublev (ATP 37) and the same age Borna Coric (ATP 48). The youngsters from Russia and Croatia will be in action this week at the premiere of the “NextGen”final tournament of the ATP World Tour in Milan, the “World Cup of Tomorrow’s Stars”.

Rublev failed in this year’s jubilee tournament at the GERRY WEBER STADION only in the quarter-finals, where he was defeated by his fellow countryman Karen Khachanov,”We have always tried to tie top talent to our tournament. In Halle, the tennis elite of the future will always be on our Centre Court,”says tournament boss Ralf Weber.

From next weekend, the tennis world will focus on London, the last title fight in the industry. The finalists of this year’s GERRY WEBER OPEN will then be in the spotlight, winner Roger Federer and finalist Alexander “Sascha” Zverev. After his fantastic comeback in 2017, the Swiss “Maestro” wants to set a final successful exclamation mark in the British capital, with his possible eighth cup win this year.

In Federer’s group “Boris Becker”, Zverev, who recently jumped to third place in the world rankings, also plays an all-time high for the young Hamburg player, who experienced his breakthrough in tennis this year. Other opponents for Federer and Zverev are Croatian Marin Cilic and US-American Jack Sock. Zverev, who is now aiming to secure the crowning glory at the ATP World Championships after his five title wins in 2017, is now attempting to win the 26th round of the ATP World Championships. Zverev’s friend Dominic Thiem, also a proud World Cup participant in London, wants to have a say in East Westphalia as well. The 24-year-old Viennese consolidated his position in the world rankings this season, held his ground in the top ten and is currently entering the prestigious London title race with a new record, rank four.
