ATP: Tournament Director Haas honored: Indian Wells once again best 1000 Tournament of the Year
Indian Wells remains the measure of all things. For the fourth time in a row, the pros have voted the tournament the best “1000th” of the year in the Californian desert.
As a player, Tommy Haas said goodbye quietly and unspectacularly through the back door in October. After he decided not to attend a farewell performance in Vienna, the 39-year-old Hamburg player can now fully concentrate on his job as tournament director in Indian Wells.
The fruits of his hard work are impressive: Haas has been in office since mid-2016, and for the second time in a row he has received the award for the best ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the season.
“As a player and tournament director, I can well understand why we’ve always won the award since 2014. But we want to improve again next year, so that the event will provide unforgettable moments in 2018,”explained the former world rankings runner-up. Indian Wells is currently the only tournament the Hawk-Eye is currently using in all qualifying and main field matches.
Meanwhile, Acapulco was awarded for the second time as the best tournament of the 500 series. Doha is the most popular 250cc tournament among ATP professionals.
