ATP: Nadal: Djokovic was on a higher level than Federer
Rafael Nadal has chosen Roger Federer as the biggest player he’s ever played against. But the Mallorcan also finds that a Novak Djokovic is able to play the best tennis of all time.
Nadal is part of one of the most successful eras of professional tennis, the trio around him, Federer and Djokovic won a total of 47 Grand Slam tournaments. Federer holds the highest score of 19, Nadal triumphed 16 times while Djokovic lifted 12 trophies. A feat that also impresses Nadal, even though one man dominates everything.
“When you look at the number of his titles and what he has achieved, Roger is the greatest in our sport,”said Nadal, talking to SER, pointing out:”Is he the best I’ve ever played against? Maybe, but I also played an outstanding djokovic.”
It’s unfair not to call Federer the greatest of all his successes, but Nadal says:”But from a technical point of view, when Djokovic is playing at his absolute climax, I have to say that I played against an invincible opponent.”
Nadal defeated Djokovic in their final encounter at the beginning of May in the semi-finals of the ATP Masters in Madrid. It was his first victory over the Serbs after seven consecutive defeats. Nadal’s last victory at Hartplatz against Djokovic was more than four years ago when the Spaniard triumphed in the final of the US Open. In the head-to-head, Djokovic is close to the lead with 26:24 wins.
