ATP: No start in Abu Dhabi: Wawrinka and Raonic have to postpone comeback

The comeback of Stan Wawrinka doesn’t have to wait a bit. Together with Milos Raonic, the Swiss must cancel his start at the Mubadala World Tennis Championships in Abu Dhabi.

Not good news for the preparation tournament in Abu Dhabi. Two stars have to cancel their start in the capital of the United Arab Emirates. On the one hand, the Swiss Stan Wawrinka will not get fit in time after his injury break.

Number nine in the world is still in the build-up phase after knee surgery,”I have to announce that I can’t be in Abu Dhabi and I can’t compete on this level. Together with my team I will work on getting fit in time for the Australian Open,”said Wawrinka.

The Canadian Milos Raonic will not be able to serve in Abu Dhabi either. In the second half of 2017, injuries to the wrist and calf overcame the giant serve in the second half of 2017 and now cost him some of the preparation “I am sad that I cannot play in front of the great crowd at the Mubadala World Tennis Championships in Abu Dhabi. I still have to give my body some rest and be patient,”Raonic told the press.

The 26-year-old will speak at a press conference on his state of health in Melbourne on Thursday. The tournament schedule of the Canadian will probably be announced at the beginning of the year.

As a replacement in Abu Dhabi, Kevin Anderson and Andrey Rublev will compete. Rafael Nadal, Pablo Carreno Busta and Dominic Thiem will also be present. Novak Djokovic is also likely to make his comeback after a six-month break.
