ATP: Milos Raonic: Season should be over after the US Open
If it goes to Milos Raonic, the season on the ATP tour would be over by the end of August. The Canadian criticized the length of the calendar and wants a more consistent tournament schedule.
Raonic started the season 2017 as number three and reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open. Problems in the abductors and an operation on the left wrist caused the giant serve to miss large parts of the season. At the start of the new season, he sets out his plan for an ideal tournament calendar.
“I think we should definitely start in January,”said Raonic tennissmash. com,”We’re having the Australian summer. The season should be over by the end of the American summer. We could, for example, play the ATP finals before the US Open, I think that would be a nice story.”
Raonic, like many of his colleagues, slipped off in the standings and is currently in 24th place and had to cancel his participation at an invitation tournament in Abu Dhabi.
The 26-year-old wants to see a pattern:”The top 5 from 2016 all didn’t finish the season,”he complains,”We’ve been playing for over eleven months, scattered all over the world in tournaments, and we mustn’t forget that. Tennis loses stability and the fans lose interest.”
The man with Montenegrin roots goes with other sports greats such as Judy Murray and Robin Söderling d’ accord, who have also criticised the tournament calendar in recent weeks.
