WTA: Görges now officially ranked 12th on the world ranking list
New career high for Julia Görges: after her success in Auvkland, the German Fed Cup player ranks 12th in the current WTA World Ranking list.
The best career ranking of Fed Cup player Julia Görges (Bad Oldesloe) is official. With her tournament victory in Auckland, New Zealand, Germany’s current number one in the world tennis rankings has improved from 14th to 12th place. Former industry leader Angelique Kerber (Kiel), who had played for Germany in the Hopman Cup last week but not for ranking points, dropped back by one position to 22nd place.
In New Zealand’s capital Auckland, Görges (29) had defeated Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark in the final and won her third consecutive tournament. Despite losing the final, Wozniacki improved from third place in the world rankings to two behind leading Romanian Simona Halep, who won the title in Shenzhen at the start of the 2018 season.
Third place goes to Garbine Muguruza, who fights like Kerber for world ranking points at the tournament in Sydney this week.
The best Austrian is Barbara Haas, who is in 169th position.
