ATP: Peter Gojowczyk defeats Robin Haase in Auckland quarter-finals

Peter Gojowczyk retired from the quarter-finals of the ATP tournament in Auckland/New Zealand one day after his surprise win over top-10 American player Jack Sock. The 28-year-old was defeated by the Dutchman Robin Haase 4:6,4:6.

The resident of Munich started well at the ATP World Tour 250 event and immediately took the lead with a break. Haase, however, equalized immediately, scored the decisive 5:4 break. In the second set it was the Dutchman who was the first to take the serve of his opponent, this time Gojowczyk was able to equalize. As in the first round, however, the German Davis Cup aspirant gave up his service in the ninth game.

Gojowczyk fought off two match points from Haase, but after 84 minutes Haase left the court as the winner. The Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut had already made it to the final round with a win against Jiri Vesely. Also among the last four is old master David Ferrer, who had no problems against Hyeon Chung, the winner of the #NextGen-Master 2017.

For Peter Gojowczyk there were 45 world ranking points and a prize money of 14,535 US dollars. And the certainty that the form is right at the beginning of 2018: last week, the world rankings 65. to the quarter-finals in Doha. Gojowczyk was defeated by the later tournament winner Gael Monfils.
