Australian Open: Chung gives up: Federer in the finals of the Australian Open against Cilic
Roger Federer (36) will play at the Australian Open on Sunday against Croatian Marin Cilic for his 20th birthday. Grand Slam title. The last year’s winner from Switzerland led against Chung Hyeon, who was 15 years younger than Chung Hyeon, 6-1,5-2, before the South Korean dropped out after 62 minutes.
Chung had been treated for a bladder on the left foot – and shortly afterwards he signalized his task:”I am happy to be in the final. But of course you don’t want to do that in this way,”said Federer, saying:”In the second sentence I felt that he has slowed down. I’ve had blisters, too, and I know how painful it is.”
The 21-year-old Chung had beaten Alexander Zverev (Hamburg) and record winner Novak Djokovic from Serbia on his way to the final round. Chung, the winner of the NextGen final in Milan at the end of 2017, was the youngest player in the semi-final of a Grand Slam in eight years and the first South Korean player ever to reach the top four in a Major.
