Porsche Talent Team: Anna Gabric talks about her nomination

Newcomer Anna Gabric from TEC Waldau Stuttgart in conversation with the Württemberg Tennis Association.

Since the 1. January 2018 Anna Gabric (TEC Waldau Stuttgart) is a new member of the Porsche Talent Team. The 18-year-old from Kirchheim/Teck is thus a member of the exclusive circle of the best young female tennis players in Germany, who are supported by the German Tennis Association (DTB) with special support measures in their sporting development. Every year, the team is reorganized and since its foundation in 2012, it unites the top German talents, of which the umbrella association expects the greatest potential in development. In an interview with Alexander Adam (Head of Marketing &PR Württembergischer Tennis-Bund) Anna Gabric tells how she was informed by Barbara Rittner (“Head of Women’s Tennis” of the DTB) about the nomination, what is going to be new now, what goals the German U18 indoor champion of the year 2016 has and what dream will come true after her current knee injury in April. Yes, it was incredible because I didn’t expect it. As Barbara (Barbara Rittner, Note the Red.) came up to me and said:”Anna, we have to talk!”, I thought I had done something wrong, was this question obvious? (laughs) No of course not! She said:”Anna, you have shown me on several occasions what you can do and you deserved to be in the team because of your hard work in training” – and now I am one of them, since there were surely more emotions involved when Barbara Rittner said in person that she was one of the best young players in Germany? In any case – I was of course very happy. It’s just an honor to be part of this circle and now it’s an honour to get this great support with wildcards, financial donations, tournament support by DTB coaches and much more. The past has shown that this support, as is currently the case with Carina Witthöft, has made it possible to make it into the top 50 in the world ranking. The nomination for the Porsche Talent Team is primarily a help, but no assurance that you will make it into the Top 50. In any case, however, it is a great opportunity to achieve your goals. I will accept the help and target the top 50 – maybe a little bit more, who knows? was there a point like after winning the German Indoor Championships in December 2016, where you noticed that I can make it into the Porsche Talent Team? I’ve never really thought about it, but I knew that when I deliver the results, work hard on myself and my weaknesses, it’s obvious that I’ll be accepted. For me, the most important thing was always to finish in tournaments and to achieve good results, which I managed to do this summer, and then the knee injury came to a halt. What is the current situation? First of all, it was annoying because I couldn’t play for a long time. Currently the inflammation is getting better, but it takes some time until I can stress again. If everything goes smoothly, I hope that by the end of March or at the end of March, I will be able to do something about it. It’s a perfect fit, because from the 21. till 29. The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix will take place in Stuttgart on April 16th and the players from the talent team were always allowed to compete in the qualification. That is definitely my big goal. When I heard that I was part of the Porsche Talent Team, my first thought was to get fit until my home tournament in order to be able to take the chance to start where I had always been a spectator as a child. I will now do everything I can to make this dream come true.
