WTA:”Violent misunderstanding” – Alizé Cornet explains missing doping tests
In an interview with the French sports daily L’ Équipe, Alizé Cornet gave the reasons for her three missed doping tests.
The 28-year-old French woman had not been found three times within twelve months, and is threatened by a lock-up of up to two years according to the guidelines of the World Anti-Doping Agency WADA. The tennis world association ITF has initiated investigations.
Cornet, who is not aware of any guilt, spoke of a huge misunderstanding:”At the third incident, at the end of October, I made no mistake. I was at home, but the controllers couldn’t reach me. Five days earlier, there was a test in Moscow and ten days later, one in Limoges – I was checked normally.”
It was a matter of minutes,”according to the world rankings-39. Cornet admitted, however, that it had been “negligent” not to disclose WADA’s travel to the Fed Cup finals in Strasbourg (November 2016) and Miami (March 2017) at WADA “We thought they would understand because the competition started the next day”.
It is true that I missed two tests back in 2013 and three tests last year,”said Cornet, who had already noticed two missed doping tests in 2013. An unbelievable mix of unfortunate circumstances has turned against me,”added the five-time WTA titleholder.
