ATP: Brown must give up shortly before victory injured
Shortly before a possible match win, Dustin Brown (Wins/All) had to give up his first-round game at the ATP tournament in Montpellier due to injury.
The 33-year-old already led against Frenchman Nicolas Mahut 7:6 (7:2) and 5:2 – before he apparently injured his back. Until then, Patrice Dominguez played 1:21 hours at Court Patrice.
The day before, qualifier Yannick Maden (Stuttgart), who had reached the main draw of an ATP tournament for the first time this year, missed the jump into the final 16 with a 1-6,6-4,6-7 (3-7) defeat of Gilles Simon (France).
Meanwhile, Mischa Zverev had already failed in his first appearance at the Australian Open on Monday after his first appearance in the first-round match at Benoit Paire (France). In the doubles, the native of Hamburg also lost 4:6,4:6,4:6 against Ben Mclachlan/Hugo Nys (Japan/France) alongside the Russian Karen Khachanov on Wednesday.
