ATP: A 92-year-old girl and her emotional letter to Rafael Nadal
Rafael Nadal has a loyal fan in old age – and is very happy about it.
“Dear Rafa, I wrote you another letter in December and sent it to the Balearic Academy, but they may not have received it. I am a lady at the age of 92 years, I will be 93 in April. And I’ve been a big fan of yours since you started playing tennis. I watch all your games, and when it’s midnight, I turn on the alarm. I’m very sorry about what happened in Australia, and I wish you all the best. You are now in Acapulco at the end of the month. I would have liked to have come, but it’s difficult for me to travel.
My late late husband played tennis. I think that’s why I like it so much. I would be very happy if you would answer.”
The great-granddaughter of the old lady sent this letter to Nadal via Twitter, after she wrote that there was no response to previous letters. Now the world number one responded:”Dear Debora, please thank your great-grandmother for this emotional letter and content that touches your heart. All the letters and support I have received from all of you mean a lot to me. Thank you very much.”
Nadal injured himself in Australia in the quarter-finals against Marin Cilic on the thigh. However, he is planning to make his comeback at the 500cc tournament in Acapulco, which will take place on 26-26 March. February begins. Last year he was in the finals here.
However, it is questionable whether he will continue to be the world’s number one competitor. If Roger Federer reaches the semi-finals in Rotterdam this week, he will take over from Nadal in the lead next week.
