WTA: Doha: Fed Cup heroine Tatjana Maria is defeated by Carina Witthöft

Tatjana Maria suffered a clear defeat in Doha two days after her victories for the German Fed Cup team.

Maria lost in round one of the premier event of her countrywoman Carina Witthöft after only just over an hour of playtime with 3:6,0:6.

Maria is still waiting for her first victory on the tour in 2017. With her five starts so far, she always lost her opening game directly. After the stressful Fed Cup weekend, Bad Saulgauerin only arrived in Doha on Monday.

The 30-year-old is currently ranked 57th in the world ranking. In November of the previous year, it had achieved its highest ranking so far with rank 46.

Witthöft will meet the world number one Caroline Wozniacki in round two, who had a walk-through in round one.

On Tuesday evening (starting at 9 p. m. CET) Julia Görges also intervenes in Doha. She’s playing Lucie Safarova. Angelique Kerber will meet Samantha Stosur on Wednesday.
