ATP: Launch defeat in Argentina: Haider-Maurer fails because of Schwartmann
At the ATP tournament in Buenos Aires, the Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer suffered a first defeat against the Argentinean Diego Schwartzmann.
Andreas Haider-Maurer had a tough start in his opening match in Buenos Aires. The Argentinean sand-court flea Diego Schwartzmann was one of the hottest personalities on the ATP tour.
Right from the start, the favourite took the upper hand and took Haider-Maurer’s serve in the opening game.
After starting difficulties, the 30-year-old came into the match better and better and equalled with a counter-break to 2-2. In the decisive phase of the first round, the Austrian underwent a miserable service game and gave up his service to zero. After 47 minutes, Schwarzmann changed his first set point to 6:4.
The second round started again badly for the underdog with a loss of serve. However, Haider-Maurer did not get up and fought for the immediate re-break. In the further course of the game, however, the quality of the local hero prevailed and Haider-Maurer came more and more into the predicament. After one hour and 23 minutes there was a 6:4 and 6:3 for Schwatzmann on the scoreboard.
