ATP: Thiem in Buenos Aires doubles already in semi-finals

Dominic Thiem and his good friend Diego Schwartzman have reached the double semi-finals of Buenos Aires. In New York, Philipp Oswald also celebrated a sense of achievement.

Thiem and his Argentinean partner won surprisingly clear against Spain’s David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco 6-1 and 6-4. For the first time since the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo last October, 24-year-old Thiem is playing in a doubles competition. Back then he had also competed with Schwartzman.

In the meantime Thiem is only missing one more win to reach the number of double-match successes from last year. Thiem is in the semi-finals of a doubles tournament for the first time since Kitzbühel in 2016. At that time he was stopped with Dennis Novak in the final by Wesley Koolhof and Matwe Middelkoop.

Next to Thiem, another Austrian is in a double semi-final. Philipp Oswald, together with his Belarusian partner Max Mirnyi, has reached the final round of the New York Open for the first time.

He used his free time in New York to visit an NHL game of the New York Islanders.

Mirnyi/Oswald beat the Indians Leander Paes and Purav Raja 6:3,6:4 in the first round. In the quarter-finals they beat Ben McLachlan and Hugo Nys 4-6,6-3,10-5. Feldkircher is now in his second semi-final of the season after Auckland. In the semi-finals, they will face Robert Lindtstedt/Franco Skugor on the winner of the match, Ryan Harrison/Steve Johnson.
