WTA: Doha: Görges has to give up because of hip injury
Julia Görges lost her quarter-finals at the Premier 5 tournament in Doha due to a hip injury. The world’s longest runner-up was trailing 4:6,1:2 against Czech Petra Kvitova (No. 10) before she could not continue to play.
“I had already injured myself during training a few days ago and have been playing with painkillers ever since. At first it was the groin, now it is higher up the hip. I can’t really lift my left leg properly,”said Görges after her assignment in the tennisnet interview. After an investigation, it will be decided how long the 29-year-old must pause. The tournament in Dubai is already scheduled for next week.
Even before the Görges task, the dream of a German semi-final at the Qatar Total Open in Doha had already been shattered after Angelique Kerber (No. 8/Kiel) lost 6:7 (4:7), 6:1,3:6 against top seeded Australian Open winner Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark despite a strong performance.
