Roger Federer follows the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang and shows great respect for the performance of the athletes in South Korea.

In Pyeongchang, the elite of winter sports will be honoured in the days of 23. Olympic Games for spectacle. The world’s biggest winter sports event is making headlines all over the world and is triggering the Olympic hype among the individual nations. Also in the tennis circus.

Despite the hype surrounding Roger Federer and his return to the Thorn, the Swiss find the time to follow the competitions in South Korea:”We in Switzerland love Olympia”, explained Federer. Especially the gold medal in cross-country skiing for his compatriot Dario Cologna made him very happy. The Maestro congratulated the Olympic champion himself:”I wanted to congratulate him on his gold, so I asked someone I knew who could give me his number and wrote to him,”said the 20-time Major winner.

The performances of the winter sportsmen make the 36-year-old feel emotional – and he is “happy”that he is allowed to stand on the tennis court:”What he and the others are doing is so hard, the intensity is so extremely different from the game I am playing here. When I see her win, I almost start crying, so much impressed. And I think:”Ai-ai-ai, luckily I chose tennis…”. Federer himself calls two Olympic medals his own. In Beijing in 2008 he won gold in doubles alongside Stan Wawrinka, four years later silver in the London singles.

It’s hard to believe that Federer says he spends almost four hours a day watching Olympic highlights. The self-proclaimed Olympic junkie follows his own fellow countrymen and feels when something great has happened, says Federer. The medals of Wendy Holdener (ski alpine, bronze in slalom) and Beat Feuz (ski alpine, silver in super-G) are of course very happy for the “Maestro”. The best description for Federer’s Olympia hype comes from the Swiss himself:”I’m their number one cheerleader!”
