ATP: Andre Agassi on Novak Djokovic:”His intellect has surprised me the most”.

Andre Agassi spoke about the peculiarities of his protégé Novak Djokovic. The US-American noted that Djokovic was a surprisingly smart guy off the court and practiced every facet of his life intensively.

In an interview with Tennis365, Agassi also revealed his appreciation of Djokovic and his chances of returning to the top of the world.

Andre Agassi on…

… The collaboration with Djokovic:”It was great fun to get to know him and find out how he works. For example, when looking for information, he reads a lot and tries to absorb everything. I still don’t want any money from him, because if I can help him, I’ll help the sport, and that alone is a good thing.”

… Novak Djokovic’s way of working:”He approaches every thing with the highest intensity. He takes everything very seriously. Even when he’s resting, he tries to get the most out of his sleep.”

… The biggest difference between him and Djokovic:”I have always tried to analyze everything on the court, while I always let my rest of my life come to me. At Novak it is exactly the opposite. Everything in his life is well thought out, he’s very smart and it’s shocking how he can remember details. In his matches, however, he generally thinks about very little and tries to approach his opponent slowly.”

… The possible successes in Djokovic’s future:”Many players have problems to get back to their best level after a shape crisis. But I trust Novak will do just that. He is now 30 years old, but his body is still that of a 25-year-old, because his joints don’t look normal. His speed and range are unbelievable.”

… The Serbian’s formal crisis before his injury:”For a while he paid too much attention to his goals. At some point you have reached a point where you have to pay the price physically, but also mentally. I think he deviated from putting too much pressure on himself. His shape curve now goes up again, and there are still some things he could add to his game. He has to worry about that now.”
