WTA: Angie Kerber fails in Dubai semi-final

Angelique Kerber (Kiel) has failed in the semi-finals at the WTA tournament in Dubai, as in the previous year, because of Elina Svitolina. The German top player lost 3:6,3:6 against the Ukrainian, who was seeded to position one.

Against the world number four, Kerber (30) only managed her own serve three times, five times she got a break. It was Kerber’s seventh defeat in the twelfth match against the seven-year-old Ukrainian, who will face unseeded Russian Darya Kasatkina in the final.

For Kerber, the tennis year 2018 continues to be successful overall despite the defeat. At her four tournament participations she won the event in Sydney, at the Australian Open and now in Dubai Kerber made the jump into the final round. Since the beginning of the year, the Kieler has improved from 21st position to ninth place in the world rankings.
